Take your first steps into stand-up comedy.
We are delighted to announce the launch of a new stand-up course under senior award-winning comedian and trainer David James.
David has very definite ideas on how to prepare stand-up comedians for the stage. Our course starts by concentrating on the quality of the material and the writing. David develops and tests the various sources of good material until each participant is proficient in all types. When the quality of the material stands on its own feet the course starts to concentrate more on delivery and the nuances of performance such as pauses, props and persona.
The participants will become experienced with a microphone and dealing with an audience, be encouraged to develop their own style, and will receive plenty of feedback along the way aimed at preparing them for a short spot in a showcase in week seven.
David's experience as a stand-up and also a coach combine to give participants the confidence to get up on their feet, alone, with a microphone and with their own material, from the word go. Not to be missed.
David (at age 61) won third place at the prestigious New Act of the Year awards at the Hackney Empire in 2009. He gigs regularly in London and the south east and is also an established trainer and coach. He not only prepares new comedians for the stage but also runs workshops for business on the use of humour at work.
